Acts Of Defiance (Boardman, OH HxC)
"[The Disliked] were invited to play a show with Kick To Tha Head and Violent Offense at the Chestnut Street Cafe in Sharon. When we got there, we found out that, apparently, the venue owner didn't know that there was a show booked, or no one ever confirmed the date, or something of that nature. After some convincing by Will, we were allowed to have the show (which no one promoted) anyway, and some last minute phone calls were made, adding Ugly Customer, Talk Shit, and another band from Poland, OH called Acts of Defiance to the bill.
"AOD were all young kids from the 'burbs, with the exception of the singer, Zach Scocchera, who lived closer to rural PA. They played very old school-inspired hardcore punk, with songs that lasted anywhere from 30 seconds to just under a minute. Zach had so much energy on stage, and I'm sorry to say that the only time I ever only got to see them perform was at this particular show. The only recordings they had were the ones on their MySpace page, and I managed to download all of them periodically, as they were uploaded, and I probably have the only copies out there aside from the band members themselves (They weren't bad recordings for what sounded like a tape recorder in a trash can!). NEWS | Violent Offense, The Plaid Disasters, and Crisis In America in Youngstown, OH on March 25th!
I know this is kinda short notice, but there's a show at University Pizza in Youngstown, OH this Friday, March 25th. The bands are Violent Offense (Y-Town), The Plaid Disasters (Cleveland), and Crisis In America (Beaver County, PA).

Alex W. Kellar (Basement Boys, Mad Minds, Boss)
Conducted via Facebook, over the course of 2½ days, while Alex was on the west coast with one of his many punk rock bands, August 4 - August 6, 2010.
How many bands are you in, anyway!?
There are 3 legitimately active bands right now: Mad Minds (bass), Boss (bass) and Basement Boys (vocals), so two hardcore bands and a punk band. I also play bass and sing in a black metal band called Dagmar which I'm 98.76% sure is broken up. I'm in the practice phase of another band playing bass, and that's all I can say about that. Oh yeah, there's also the acoustic Basement Boys side project (Basement Boi) where I play Basement Boys songs, 80s anime soundtrack songs and of course the LUMBERJAKK cover. I look like an asshole and people laugh, so I have fun.

Hilarious mock-interview I did in 2004. Both the interviewer and interviewee are me. This was meant to promote a studio side-project I did with my brother a couple of years prior. I didn't bother to re-proofread it, so it's probably a little rough-around-the-edges, but take it for what it is-- comedy gold.

It's been a few years since the band Oatmeal recorded their one and only EP independently, not even a year since they got it distributed by punk rock/antifolk label I/E Records. I recently came into contact with singer Stink Fingers at my son's little league game. Having never heard of the New Jersey outfit before (and understandably so), I had no clue I was talking to an up-and-coming celebrity (Fingers' claim). As I talked more with him, I KNEW I had to get an exclusive interview with him. After all, I DO work for an independent music mag. And this was paydirt.
